New From Berlin

As you may know, Devin is in Germany this summer for on a RISE scholarship.  He recently sent back an update on his experiences so far; so below is an extract from his email:

“Germany has been great.  My two weeks in Berlin were awesome.  There were twelve of us learning and laughing over taking our first steps with the language at the "did deutsch-institut."  We had many fun adventures together as Berlin has no shortage of museums and interesting sights.

Now in Dortmund, I have visited almost all there is to see in this small city in a single weekend and am looking forward to getting into my research.  The lab group I am working with at TU Dortmund (Dortmund University) in surprisingly diverse; there are members from Sweden, Italy, France, Spain, Iran, India, and Germany (my PhD student).  My part in the project so far has drawn on my organic chemistry experience as I prepare monomers/template molecules for multistep reactions and various samples for NMR.  I am looking forward to learning more about molecularly imprinted polymers and the different techniques being employed in the lab.    : )

We all hope that Devin continues to enjoy his trip and that his research turns out to be fruitful.
