You have an extract that contains a DNA binding protein. Below is shown the results of a footprinting experiment where you incubated a 32P labeled restriction fragment with different amounts of your extract (1 micrograms, 5 micrograms, or 10 micrograms) before adding DNase. A control where only DNase was added is also shown. Does the protein bind to the restriction fragment? If so, how many sites are there? What other simple conclusion can you make from the data? What would you need to do to determine the DNA sequence recognized by the protein?
