HW #9                                                                                    Due Thursday, Dec  6, 2007

Problem 9.1   Using the first Born approximation, compute the differential cross section  for the Gaussian potential V(r) = V0 exp( - r2 / R2 ). (cf Shankar problem 19.3.3).  Is it isotropic for small momentum p?

EXTRA CREDIT Problem 9.2  Compute the s-wave ( l= 0) phase shift for a square well of depth V0 and radius r0.  (Cf. Shankar problem 19.5.4.)  Compute the differential cross-section for this contribution only. How does it compare to the answer computed in class (also in Shankar problem 19.3.2) using the Born approximation?
