Computational resources

OPEN HOURS for P-247 To Be Announced

Everyone is encouraged to get an account on rohan.sdsu.edu. (You can get this from the second floor of Love Library). These computers run Unix and has two Fortran compilers, f77 and f90. (I have not used the latter.)

The Physics Department has a computer lab in P-247, which are Macs. The Fortran compiler is gfortran. The username and password is posted in the lab.

At this time, we cannot offer individual accounts on the computers in the Physics computer lab (we don’t have the budget to have someone to manage). So I strongly recommend the following:

1. Always maintain your files on your rohan account AND on a USB drive.
2. You can set up a working directory on any computer using the mkdir command.
3. When finished, you can simply tar and gzip the entire directory and transfer back to your rohan account using scp.

This is far from ideal, I know, and I regret we cannot offer better. In the future we hope to improve the lab’s capabilities.
