Silvia Bigatti

Silvia Bigatti

Silvia Bigatti was born one of six children in Buenos Aires, Argentina and emigrated to the US with her family when she was only a few months old. Her family returned to Argentina when Silvia was 12, where she stayed for 10 years, when she moved to Tijuana, Mexico with her husband to start a family. In May 1990, the day after Silvia obtained her California Residency, at the age of 31, Silvia went to register for her first course at community college. At that time Silvia had two young children. Silvia transferred to SDSU in 1992 with a Cumulative GPA of 4.0 and was accepted into the MARC program in 1993, while she was also working full time for the university. Thanks to the MARC scholarship, Silvia was able to cut her hours to part time and she flourished in her research. In 1995 Silvia graduated as Valedictorian of the entire San Diego State University with a Cumulative GPA of 4.0 in addition to an outstanding research background. Silvia was accepted into the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. Silvia was awarded an NIH Predoctoral Fellowship which supported her for 5 years. Silvia obtained her Ph.D. in 2000 after completing a clinical internship at Yale University School of Medicine (during this time, Silvia also gave birth to her third child).

Silvia is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). The SDSU MARC Program is extremely proud of Dr. Silvia Bigatti, a returning student and mother of 3 who hopes to someday direct a MARC program of her own.
