Salton Sea Research Management Committee


Charter

 

I. Purpose

A coordinated research effort is needed to facilitate the completion of the NEPA/00CEQA process and the identification of an appropriate remedial approach for addressing the Salton Sea's environmental issues. The Salton Sea Research Management Committee ("Research Committee") has been formed to respond to this need. The Research Committee will facilitate the pooling of financial resources for research and science and the coordination of research on a time-sensitive basis for potential use in the NEPA/CEQA process.

II. Organization

The Research Committee will consist of one high-level representative of each of the four governments involved in the Salton Sea recovery effort: (1) the United States; (2) the State of California; (3) the Salton Sea Authority; and (4) the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Tribe.

III. Process

The Research Committee will appoint the Chairperson of a Science Subcommittee and approve the charter for the Subcommittee. The Subcommittee shall assist the Research Committee in identifying and prioritizing research and evaluation needs.

The Research Committee also will identify and coordinate funding sources to complete research and evaluation activities needed in connection with the NEPA/CEQA process.

The Research Committee shall operate by consensus of its members.
