White Coat
Ceremony
(Western University of the Health Sciences College of
Osteopathic Medicine)
This summer I shared the excitement of the white coat ceremony at Western University of the Health Sciences with three of my former advisees. Kyrra Moffatt and Kirby Kosirog are embarking on careers in osteopathic medicine and Tracy Wickware is on her way to being a PA. Stacy Gerlitz and Dave Hodges, President and Vice President of the San Diego State Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), were also on hand.

In an auditorium at Claremont Colleges, we watched as this new team of students donned their white coats and dedicated themselves to the service of humankind.

Following the event, we traveled back to the medical school for socializing and lunch. COMP is unique. It feels like a downtown main street of a quieter time in history, but the buildings have been gutted to provide a beautiful modern school with rich woods, staircases, and a modern gross anatomy lab.

Following the luncheon, I visited with SDSU alum Tracy Wickware who will study to be a Physician Assistant.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit Western, watch for their special events when you can visit and take a tour. Perhaps some day I will attend your white coat ceremony!--Barb
