Foundation for the Children of the Californias
(Note: We were recently notified that the clinic may require an additional charge for this internship. They suggest that there may be philanthropic organizations that would be willing to help out. Outside of tuition, there is no charge for this program through SDSU so any monetary considerations must be worked out with the clinic in advance.)

Students interested in obtaining internships with the Medical Education Program must fulfill BOTH the Medical Education Program Requirements and the PPHA Internship Requirements.

The Foundation for the Children of the Californias is a non-profit organization that has helped to construct the first Children’s Hospital in Baja California, Mexico. Located just ½ mile from the Otay Mesa Border, this hospital is equipped to provide various medical treatments from surgery to general pediatrics.

As a part of an ongoing tri-national medical education program, internships are offered to any preprofessional health students who show a particular interest in working with children. Thus far, internships are available for students interested in health professions such as medical, dental, physician assistant, nursing, physical therapy, and nutrition. Research opportunities are also available for SDSU students through the department of Public Health. More opportunities will become available for other fields as our medical education program expands.

Students interested in obtaining internship with the Medical Education Program must fulfill BOTH the Medical Education Program Requirements and the PPHA Internship Requirements.

Medical Education Program Requirements:

Proof of Vaccination.
Complete and submit application form with brief resume.
Written 1-page evaluation of your experience with the program (this evaluation can be used to satisfy the PPHA internship requirements).
Provide own transportation to Hospital Infantil De Las Californias.

PPHA Internship Requirements:

60 units minimum are required for credit.
Must have an active file with the Preprofessional Health Advising Office.
Overall GPA of 3.0 or better is required.
A ten-page research report reviewing a disease or condition encountered during the internship. (See the guidelines for writing your report.)
Written evaluation of your experience in the internship
