Etymology: after Nicholas "Garry" (1782-1856) of the Hudson's Bay Company / "yellowish, becoming yellow"

Shrub, of montane chaparral. Note opposite leaves, adaxial surface with strigose-strigillose trichomes (antrorsely oriented).
