Greeneocharis currently consists of two species, one with two varieties:  [Cryptantha synonyms in red]
Greeneocharis circumscissa (Hooker & Arnott) Rydberg
     G. c. var. circumscissa
     G. c. var. rosulata (J.T. Howell) Hasenstab & M.G. Simpson
Greeneocharia similis (K. Mathew & P. H. Raven) Hasenstab & M. G. Simpson
[Cryptantha circumscissa (Hooker & Arnott) I. M. Johnston]
[Cryptantha circumscissa (Hooker & Arnott) I. M. Johnston var. circumscissa]
[Cryptantha circumscissa (Hooker & Arnott) I. M. Johnston var. rosulata J. T. Howell]
[Cryptantha similis K. Mathew & P. H. Raven]

Key to taxa of Greeneocharis (modified from Kelley et al. 2012):

Corolla limb 3.5–6 mm diam, appendages larger than small to minute, yellow ............................................................................. G. similis

Corolla limb generally 1–2 mm diam, appendages small to minute, white to pale yellow .................................................... G. circumscissa

Stem generally > 2 cm; calyx 3–4 mm in fruit; fruit axis ± = mature nutlets; nutlet beak 0; leaf margin rolled under ..... var. circumscissa

Stem 0.5–2 cm; calyx 2.5–3 mm in fruit; fruit axis < mature nutlets; nutlet strongly beaked; leaf margin ± flat .................... var. rosulata

NOTE: Greeneocharis similis and G. circumscissa also differ in chromosome number and pollen diameter, major reasons for their status as separate species.
The chromosome number of Greeneocharis circumscissa var. rosulata has not been determined,
but pollen diameter is reported to be similar to G. circumscissa var. circumscissa. (See Mathew & Raven 1962).

Greeneocharis similis n=6 pollen 5.5-6.5 µm in diameter
Greeneocharis circumscissa var. circumscissa n=12 (18) pollen 7-9 µm in diameter
