Congrats go out to MBRS Scholars, Alyssa Jimenez and Joe Torres! Both received the CSUPERB-Howell award to support their undergraduate research. Alyssa was recognized for her resesarch on GBS-vaginal colonization, while Joe was recognized for his project on “Stable Retroviral Expression of Peptide Inhibitors of HIV-1 Integrase.”

CSUPERB has partnered with the Doris A. Howell Foundation for Women's Health Research to fund promising undergraduate student research projects in topics related to women's health.

CSUPERB and the Howell Foundation co-fund $3000 Research Scholar Awards to support CSU undergraduate researchers.

Together the Howell Foundation and CSUPERB recognize that research experience is critical to recruiting, training and retaining students interested in careers in women's health.


Congratulations to Gabriel Chait, B.S., MBRS Bioengineering Scholar!
Gabriel Chait was selected for the prestigious Fulbright Scholar Program where he will return to Northern Peru to continue his Ethnobotanical Profile research involving finding, planting, and conserving endangered species of traditionally used medicinal plants in the northern Andes. His goal is to complete a Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” With this goal as a starting point, the Fulbright Program has provided almost 300,000 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.

Karina Kangas Awarded Quest for the Best!

Karina Kangas, Chemistry major, was selected for the prestigious Vice-Presidential award, Quest for the Best. The “Quest for the Best” awards seek to recognize outstanding student leaders who have typified and promoted the mission of the university. This Vice Presidential Student Service award is given each April to the “best of the best” at SDSU – those students who excel academically and through community and campus involvement. This award recognizes individual excellence in academics, campus involvement, and community service.
