Graduate Admissions Information

 

Before you apply:

Applicants must meet both University and departmental requirements for admittance.

University requirements

  • Hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Have a 2.85 GPA in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted for domestic coursework. This does not include lower level courses taken after award of baccalaureate degree.
  • Have a 3.00 cumulative GPA for international coursework.
  • Have been in good standing at the last institution attended.

Department of Mathematics and Statistics Requirements

Domestic Applicants

  • GRE. Must take all three sections. Minimum score at least 950 (verbal and quantitative combined).
  • GPA. Score requirement is 2.85.

International Applicants

  • GRE. Must take all three sections. Minimum score at least 950 (verbal and quantitative combined).
  • GPA. Score requirement is 3.0.
  • TOEFL. Score requirement is 550 (Paper-based) or 213 (Computer-Based).

Application Procedures for:

Applying to SDSU is a two step process as detailed below:

Step 1: Apply to the University.

You are required to submit the CSU application form to the SDSU office of Graduate Admissions. Application and payment of the $55 fee via the Web is encouraged. For U.S nationals use www.csumentor.edu. International students should use http://www.sa.sdsu.edu/isc/iscindex.html

Step 2: Assemble one complete admissions packet, which should include the following:

1) One set of original and official transcripts of all previous academic work attempted.

You must submit one set of official transcripts in sealed envelopes from each issuing institution. This would include all degree transcripts and a transcript from the last institution attended. Your transcripts must reflect the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted. Students with international coursework must submit all official transcripts and proofs of degree. If certificates and transcripts are not in English, they should be accompanied by certified English translations.

2) The following exams are required. Exam scores should be submitted electronically by the testing service to San Diego State University.

GRE test scores (SDSU ADD/Institution Code is 4682). TOEFL test score (if Postsecondary instruction is in a language other than English).

Spring semester:

Deadlines for Graduate Teaching Assistantships:
Fall semester:
March 15 (decisions made by April 1)
Spring semester:
October 1 (decisions made by October 15)

Off-campus professional employment may be obtained through a University Foundation work-study program, administered by the Placement Center. All positions are half-time during the academic year, full-time in the summer, and subject to availability.
