The persistently low representation of Asians and Pacific Islanders in cancer clinical trials militates against the amelioration of their cancer health. However, achieving significant improvement in their inclusion in cancer clinical trials have been hindered by the very nature of the Asian and Pacific Islander population, that is, by the vast diversity of ethnic subgroups of which it is comprised. Therefore, the current Asian and Pacific Islander pilot study is exploring cultural commonalities amongst 16 of its ethnic subgroups represented in San Diego County. This study's findings will contribute to the efforts to achieve adequate representation of Asians and Pacific Islanders in cancer research by addressing the problematic diversity of this population.
