In recent years RBF mesh-free methods gained
attention, not only in the engineering but also in the mathematics community.
Their algorithmic simplicity, their capability of solving 3D problems with
complex boundaries and the the lack of grid generation, are among the reasons
for this development.
In this course we shall advocate to the study of RBF methods for the solution of partial differential equations. For this purpose we shall first introduce the student to the radial basis functions interpolation and quasi interpolation methods. Both theoretical foundations and numerical examples will be studied. In the second part of this course we shall review some of the most significant RBF techniques for the solution of elliptic and parabolic problems. Numerical examples in matlab will be assigned. |
