Online (Blackboard) Open-Book Quizzes

To further assist students in learning in small doses and using several books as resources, an open-book quiz will be administered every Monday to Wednesday during the semester starting September 25. There is one exception: an online quiz will not occur on November 6-8 (the week of the first class field trip). The weekly online quiz will be available on the Biol 515 Blackboard website from 5:00pm Monday until 12:00pm Wednesday each week beginning on Monday, 25 September. To ensure that students have no problems using the Blackboard system, a practice online quiz will be available from 5pm Sep 18 to 12pm Sep 20. There will be a total of 10 online quizzes during the semester, and all will count towards a student’s course grade.
Questions will be multiple choice. Because students can use any resource during these quizzes, questions will tend to be more difficult than those on the daily in-class quizzes. Like the in-class quizzes, questions will assess students’ preparation for upcoming topics and activities, students’ understanding of recent material, and students’ broader application of the key concepts discussed earlier. Because students have a flexible 43-h window in which to take an online quiz, make-up quizzes will not be offered under any circumstance.
