Assignments, Exams, and Grading

Students’ grades will be based on a variety of assignments and exam formats:

Click on the assignment link in the table below to see a brief overview of each assignment (a new browser window will open after you click). Additional details are presented in the

Course Description & Policies PDF handout.

In general, a student’s letter grade will reflect his/her achievement and performance on the above assignments and exams, according to the following absolute scale:

A = 774-860 pt;   B = 688-773 pt;   C = 600-687 pt;
D = 515-599 pt;        F = 0-514 pt

Because assignments will be frequent and regular, students will be kept continually abreast of their achievement and performance. Depending on the relative distribution of students’ final point totals, plus and minus grades (i.e., A-, B+) might be assigned to scores in the top and bottom 20 pts of each grade range to adequately distinguish students’ performance relative to their peers.

Cheating
Cheating will not be tolerated. A variety of actions constitute cheating. They include, but are not limited to:

  • Accepting any unauthorized, non-public information about a specific quiz, exam, or assignment.

  • Distributing any unauthorized, non-public information about a specific quiz, exam, or assignment before others have completed the activity.

  • Using any unauthorized information during a quiz or exam.

  • Plagiarism: submitting someone else’s work or ideas as your own. Any use of someone else’s work or ideas should be cited properly (see the Term-Paper Handout for more details).

Any student who is caught cheating or suspected of cheating will receive a zero on that particular quiz, exam, or assignment, and Dr. Hentschel will refer the matter to the SDSU Judicial Procedures Office.
