Welcome to Biology
100L: General Biology Laboratory for Non-Majors at SDSU
Current Biology 100
Lab activities include DNA fingerprinting, computer simulations, and
an emphasis on the importance of the scientific process as a way to
understand natural phenomena. To help show biology's relevance to
everyday topics, we introduce each lab session with a scenario that
illustrates the applicability of that day's lab to important societal
issues. These scenarios may vary from a short description of an event
that occurred in an individual's life (such as the birth of a baby
with Down syndrome), or an issue that might be found in the newspaper
(the effect of the destruction of the rain forest), to a problem that
the students are given to solve (for example on population ecology)
or an ethical situation for discussion.
We are always striving to improve these labs.
Our ongoing hope
is that students find the Biology 100 Lab curriculum richer, more
relevant, and therefore more memorable.
Comments
from students and faculty are always welcome so please offer any
suggestions that you have. Thanks in advance for your input!
