Interests

  • Earthquakes and crustal deformation using both seismology and deformation measurements (especially InSAR).
  • Signal processing and seismic interpretation.
  • Earthquake education and outreach.

    Classes (Fall 2005)

  • Geo 596 Seismic interpretation & 3D visualization MWF 9:00 (maybe changed)
  • Comp Sci 600 Computational problems in the physical sciences
    Various datasets

  • Earthquake location applet
Click on the 'Pick P' button and then on each seismogram at the P wave. A little line and a P should appear. Repeat with the 'Pick S' button. Picks can be re-picked. When happy with selections, click on 'Locate EQ' and circles should appear on the map. The earthquake epicenter should be near the place where all three circles coincide. Mostly.
  • Earthquake magnitude applet
The map shows the San Andreas fault. Click on start, then on the starting point of the rupture along the fault. Then click on the end button and then the ending point. The rupture and approximate magnitude will appear. How big an earthquake can you make?
