PRINCIPLES OF CELL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY
LABORATORY SCHEDULE
SPRING 2003

Coordinator: Dr. Dave Truesdale

Office Hours in PS 154: M: 0930-1030 and F: 1230-1330 or by appointment

Welcome to Biology 202 lab!  Please be advised that all sections are currently fully enrolled, however, our past experience is that we should be able to accomodate most of you!  In each individual case, this will in large part depend upon "your" flexibility.  The bottom line is to offer us (the TAs and myself) some choices as to which section you can attend!

NOTE:  Several students offered lab sections have failed to show up for lab so I currently have several spots available in the following labs: section 8(4); section 7(1); section 4(1);and section 3(1)...A lot of "Crashers" did not email me so that I could contact them...If one of these spots fits your schedual...email me at
"htruesda@sunstroke.sdsu.edu"...

If you have emailed me about a different section but have subsequently decided any section will do...email me with your revised choices...

CHEM-200:  Chemistry 200 or the equivalent is a "requirement" to register for this course!  Please be prepared to provide proof that you meet this pre-requisite prior to my providing you with an add code or switching you from one section to another.

If you are repeating the class and you earned a "C" or better in lab last time, whether or not you are registered for the course, See Dr. Truesdale as soon as possible!

The Crash Lists and Switch Lists will be posted by section below, hopefully, prior to the second week of class.

Crash List

See the GTA for your Add Code Next week...Register Immediately!!!  If you were trying to crash and your name does not appear below, please contact Dr. Truesdale at htruesda@sunstroke.sdsu.edu so that I have a record for next semester...I would guess that a few additional spaces "might" become available next week so check your email...

Switch List

The students listed below were switched from the section they were originally assigned to the section indicated below...See your New TA for instructions...  Very few switches were possible...most people wanted sections 1 or 5 which is difficult to do with the program being impacted...

LAB GRADING

The laboratory part of Biology 202 is worth 25% of your final grade. At a minimum your grade in lab will be determined by your performance in several areas of assessment, as shown in the table below. Individual Graduate Teaching Assistants may give more quizzes or may require additional write-ups.

1 Quizzes are given at times and dates determined by your TA. They test whether or not you have carefully read the lab exercise for that day. If you are late or absent, you miss out on the quiz--no make-ups!

2 Write-ups for all the lab exercises listed above are due at the beginning of the next lab meeting. Any unexcused lateness in turning in these write-ups will result in point deductions according to the following scheme: -5 pts after the first 10 minutes of the next lab meeting (the due date); -5 pts for each additional school day of delay. Your lab writeup must be your own work!!! Students who turn in identical lab write-ups will each receive none of the points (i.e. 0 points) given for that write-up and will be referred to the appropriate University official for ajudication.

3The final lab exam is a comprehensive written test of all the principles and procedures you learned in lab. It is the same test for all lab sections, and takes place on May 8, 2003 at 8:00 am in HH 130.

A Final Note: Your TAs and Dr. Truesdale are a friendly and helpful lot...get to know them! They won't do your work for you, but they will guide you when you need help. Take advantage of this resource whenever you need assistance.
