What is LSAMP?
Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation is an academic support program. The goal of CSU-LSAMP is to broaden participation in science, mathematics, engineering and technology (STEM) disciplines and contribute to the national agenda to increase the number of low income, first generation and/or underrepresented minority students receiving baccalaureate degrees in STEM disciplines. It focuses on strengthening the mathematical skills of these students and continues to support students and they prepare to apply for graduate programs. This program is funded by the National Science Foundation and the California State University to create a pathway to success for its participants.

Where is LSAMP held?
During the academic year, the LSAMP program is conducted on the home campus of the student(s) involved. During the summer, the program is conducted on the campus of San Diego State University (HOUSING IS NOT INCLUDED). During the academic year, activities are held at the prospective campuses.
How long is LSAMP?
Initially, LSAMP is a five week, non residential, summer program and participation in academic workshops, seminars, etc. throughout the following academic years
Are there benefits for participating in LSAMP?
During the four week summer session, July 11 &ndash August 12, 2011, 10:00 am – 2:30 pm, participants are provided with a stipend of $600 and their required Calculus book for the Fall semester. Academic Year Scholarships are available based on workshop participation, research, graduatae school preparation seminars/courses and GRE coursework.
Are there other benefits?
Throughout the five week summer program at SDSU, participants experience opportunities to meet other classmates with similar interests, meet faculty, recieve special advising, counseling and mentoring, explore a variety of careers in science, engineering, mathematics, and improve one's confidence and problem solving abilities.
Is there a deadline for applying?
Yes. Applications for participation in the LSAMP program must be postmarked by June 15th. Applicants will be notified after June 30th if they are accepted.

Announcing the 2012-13 Application for the LSAMP Scholars Program
CSU-LSAMP has implemented a Student Scholar's Program designed to increase the number of URM students that enter graduate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) programs by supporting undergraduate CSU-LSAMP students who have declared this interest in pursuing graduate study in STEM fields.
Who is Eligible?
Students who face social, educational, or economic barriers to careers in STEM. Students must be U.S. Citizens attending SDSU. Applicants to the CSU-LSAMP Scholars Program must be upper-division students who have participated in CSU-LSAMP activities prior to submission of the application. Applicants must also be enrolled at a CSU institution as of Fall 2012 and be enrolled at the CSU campus for at least one semester or two (2) quarter terms of the academic year 2011-2012.
All applicants must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents at time of the application. Previous LSAMP Scholars are not eligible to re-apply.
Requirements
Each applicant must have a faculty sponsor from the student's home campus who will be available for the duration of the plan specified in the application. The program is designed for students interested in obtaining research degrees. Students interested in obtaining professional degrees (law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or and MBA degree) are not eligible.
How to Apply?
If you are interested in applying you should immediately contact your CSU-LSAMP campus coordinator (Thelma Chavez) for further information. Your application must be submitted by your home campus to the CSU-LSAMP Statewide Office. The SDSU deadline is Friday, February 1, 2012 by 4pm, so it can be reviewed and those selected will be sent on to the Statewide Office.

Community College Transfer Scholar's Program Requirements
1. Must meet the minimum requirements to be LSAMP eligible
a. U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
b. Be an individual who has faced or faces social, educational, or economic barriers to careers in STEM
c. Declared Science or Engineering Major at SDSU
2. Must participate in or have participated in the SDSU LSAMP Summer Pathways thru Calculus program or any Academic Year Activities (including but not limited to. advising with Dr. Martin. GRE prep course, academic year/summer research experience, courses in Ethics, Scientific Writing or Intro to Research Colloquium) or have participated in the LSAMP program through another designated CSU LSAMP Program.
3. Have participated or is currently participating in either the E96-MEP/MSP Engineering/Physical Science Transfer Orientation Course or the Psy 250-FSMP Course
