History of RSRF and San Diego State University

In 1990 an association with the Department of Biology and Molecular Biology at San Diego State University was formed and has developed greater interest in studies relative to molecular changes in heart disease. Drs. Paolini, Dahms, Bejar, and Krown, have investigated the pathways of enzymes and proteins in development of disease processes. The use of the video imaging technique of the individual heart cell isolation and resultant measurements of the molecular activity of the living heart cell, as well as the electrically stimulated heart cell have added new understanding of heart disease.

Over the past seven years student training programs have been developed. Graduate and undergraduate students have participated in general, as well as in individual laboratory research activities. These have been sponsored by the Foundation with grants from government sources. Another funded program involves training of teachers of science in the K-12 level with hands-on current experience in the laboratory. This has been extremely valuable, not only to the students but the teachers in their attempts to keep up to date on all scientific advancements.

The Foundation has been on the cutting edge of research activity since its formation in 1938. These research projects have been made possible by grants   and donations from foundations and individuals.
