Applications of Gene Knockout Techniques
to Alcohol Research

Satellite Symposium to the 1998 Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience Sponsored by The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
  • Saturday, November 7, 1998
    8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
    Los Angeles Convention Center, Room 406 A & B
    Los Angeles, California, USA

Are you an expert on gene knockouts and looking for genetic-related brain disorders as research projects? Are you an investigator studying the molecular targets of alcohol and have an immediate need for gene knockouts? If so, this satellite symposium is designed for you. This symposium will introduce the most recent molecular genetic engineering techniques, including tissue-specific knockouts, inducible knockouts and the "hit and run" techniques. It will discuss how to apply these techniques successfully to explore the roles of various gene products in alcohol- induced brain dysfunctions and behaviors, and in the cause of alcoholism. Leading scientists in the gene knockout field, and alcohol researchers who either have already applied these techniques or have a need for knockouts are invited as speakers and discussants, in order to stimulate fruitful collaborations.
