San Diego has been called America's Finest City. University
life is more enjoyable when you are located in a beautiful city with
idyllic weather. Students regularly take advantage of the many sites and attractions that
have made San Diego a desirable vacation spot:
- 70 miles of beautiful beaches
on the Pacific Ocean;
- Balboa Park,
the central park boasting Spanish-style museums modeled after
exhibits of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition and much more;
- Torrey Pines Park,
featuring hiking trails along a bluff overlooking the Pacific
shoreline and the annual Buick Invitational Golf Tournament;
- the World Famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park;
- Downtown's Historic Gaslamp Quarter,
the city's dining and entertainment center;
- San Diego Chargers football, San Diego Padres
(who play in the new Petco Park downtown) baseball, and
San Diego Gulls hockey, as well as collegiate atheletics from the
San Diego State University Aztecs;
- Historic Old Town San Diego;
- Sea World aquatic park;
- Mission Trails Regional Park,
filled with challenging biking and hiking trails only a 15-minute
drive from campus;
- Julian, California in the
nearby mountains, home of the best apple bakeries in the West;
- Anza-Borrego and
Ocotillo Wells
Desert State Parks, for those with a taste for sandy expanses and/or
off-road driving.
Students also drive north into Los Angeles to enjoy its various
attractions ("I'm going to Disneyland!") and to
Big Bear Resort during ski season.
