He received the B.S. in Computational and Applied Mathematics in 1990 and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1994, both from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Campinas, SP, Brazil. He received the Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame in 2005.
He was a Research Assistant in the Department of Communications of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNICAMP from March 1995 through June 1996. During this period he taught algebraic coding theory at the graduate level.
From July 1996 through June 2002 he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the Paulista State University (UNESP), campus of São José do Rio Preto, Brazil. He taught graduate and undergraduate courses, supervised master's dissertations and undergraduate research projects, and served as department vice-chairman for one year.
He held a post-doctorate position in the Dipartimento di Elettronica at the Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy, from October 1999 through February 2001. From 2002 to 2005, he was a teaching assistant in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. Interlando's research interests include cryptography (in particular, complexity of Boolean functions), coding theory, design of signal constellations, and algebraic number theory. His work has been published internationally; he has served as a referee as well.
